The candidates have been announced for the Princeton FCCLA and FFA Barnwarming which is to be held on November 6, 2021. The event will be held at the Mercer County Fair Building in Princeton from 7 to 11 p.m.
Senior candidates are Luke Kelly and Becca Kile, Kaleb Thomas and Kyla Coffman, and Logan Garrison and Hannah Bruse.
Attendants are juniors Riley Moreno and Klaire Buckler, sophomores Tristan Girdner and Hannah Meighen, and freshmen Clay Evans and Nevaeh Brizendine.

Two local basketball teams had big wins on the hardwood and a wrestling team makes its second appearance in our weekly poll.
Another big shout out to Rock Valley College for sponsoring this winter long contest.

Each weekend through the winter season we will be taking nominations for the team of the week. You can nominate a team from Friday afternoon till Sunday night. Every Monday we will gather up the nominations and then put it up to a vote on the 1440wrok.com website.
The winning team will be announced during the morning show on WROK with RIley and Joe and receive a $100 Visa card for their program. At the end of the season, all weekly winners will go up against each other to be named Team of the Season and receive a $500 Visa card for their program.

CLINTON — Cindy Ronan’s scroll-saw wood art is part of the annual Clinton Art Association membership show at the River Arts Center this fall.
Ronan, who recently retired to Mount Carroll, Illinois, hung her intarsia and fretwork Tuesday in preparation for Wednesday’s opening.
“I’ve done woodworking all my life,” said Ronan. “I lived in Colorado my whole life. I miss my mountains.”
Ronan started with carving and has made everything from jewelry boxes to entertainment centers, she said. She refinished furniture.
Then Ronan was introduced by a friend to scroll-saw art. She spends a couple of hours a day creating the pieces. “I’m so happy [doing it],” she said.
Ronan loves working with hardwoods, creating both intarsia and fretwork. Ronan sells her pieces by word of mouth to friends, she said. She displays some pieces at The Loft on Main in Morrison, Illinois, and now at River Arts Center.
She doesn’t have enough time to create a large inventory, Ronan said.
Other members exhibiting in the Membership Show include Karen Stuart Casper, from Milan, Illinois who hasn’t exhibited at River Arts Center before, said Martha Hayes, of Clinton Art Association.
Laura Von Thun, of Camanche, hasn’t shown for awhile, Hayes said, but has artwork in this year’s show. Gregg Steele, of Princeton, exhibits his oil paintings in the show, and Sheila Wyeth has left some pieces from her recent show for exhibition in the Membership Show, Hayes said.
Jodie Toohey, of Camanche, and Dave Kracht will also exhibit in the show.
The Membership Show continues through Dec. 24. River Arts Center is open from 1-4 p.m. at 229 Fifth Ave. South in Clinton.

PRINCETON, Ind (WEHT) A probable cause affidavit details a domestic disturbance before a shooting last week, and shows the last known whereabouts of the alleged shooter in East St. Louis. The incident happened Tuesday, April 13, around 7:50 p.m. at a home on W. Broadway near Glass Street in Princeton.
The victim told police Landon Bairfield was having an argument with the victim’s mother. His mother and Bairfield were in a relationship. In the affidavit, Bairfield said to the mother, “Man I want to <expletive> kill your son. Get in there and <expletive>cook! I want to kill your son,” and the victim replied, “If you ever say that [Kill your son] to my mom I’m going to punch you in your mouth!”
The victim says Bairfield then pulled out a .380 calibur pistol from his waistband and shot the victim in the hand. The victim begged Bairfield not to kill him. The mother then came pushed Bairfield away, and put herself between Bairfield and her son. The affidavit says the mother took the victim to the hospital and Bairfield left the house.
A warrant has been issued for Bairfield’s arrest on a charge of aggravated battery. His last known location was East St. Louis. He is considered armed and dangerous. Police say do not approach him. If you see him, call 911 or (812) 385-3496 option 1.

TELL CITY, Ind. (WEHT) — Following an investigation, 34-year-old David Randall was arrested by Tell City Police for attempted child molestation, child solicitation and inappropriate communication with a child, detectives say.
TCPD say they began their investigation after learning that Randall was allegedly engaging in inappropriate communication with a 12-year-old child using the popular social media app Snapchat.
BREMEN, Ky. (WEHT) The recovery effort across the Tri-State is drawing volunteers from around Kentucky and beyond. Among the groups helping is the West Side Nut Club, who were in Bremen in Muhlenberg County.
Volunteers say they hope today’s help goes a long way.
BREMEN, Ky (WEHT) — And the stories coming out of Kentucky are all about resiliency and compassion. People with nothing are doing everything they can to help their neighbors come to terms with the tragedy.

Trooper Gerald Mason

(WMAQ) — An Illinois state trooper is dead after being shot on one of Chicago’s major expressways.
Officials say it happened at 1:43 Friday afternoon on the Dan Ryan Expressway.
The trooper, 36-year-old Gerald Mason, was taken to an area hospital in critical condition, where he later died, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office said.
The ISP Chicago District says Mason was an 11-year veteran of the state police force.

“It is with profound heartache and unfathomable sadness that we inform you of the death of Trooper Gerald Mason,” Director Brendan Kelly said in a statement Friday evening. “Trooper Mason was one of the many fearless Troopers assigned to ISP District Chicago. We are asking the public to respectfully give consideration to the family of Trooper Mason and the whole ISP family while we continue to grieve and work through this tragedy.”
The expressway’s inbound local lanes were shut down because of the investigation, which led to build-up of traffic. Commuters were urged to find alternate routes.
The shooting comes just one day after Illinois State Police announced they were increasing their patrol presence on expressways due to a rise in shootings.
State police say there have been at least 185 reported shootings on Chicago expressways so far in 2021. That’s up from 128 that happened in all of 2020.

RANDOLPH COUNTY (WSIL) — A Sparta woman has died after a crash in Randolph County.
Illinois State Police say a car was traveling east on Illinois Route 154, west of Lessley Road Thursday afternoon, when the vehicle for unknown reasons crossed into oncoming traffic. The car struck a mini van head on.
The driver of the car, 16-year-old girl from Evansville, Illinois was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the van, 70-year-old Kathy Deangelo of Sparta, was pronounced dead at the scene.
ISP Traffic Reconstruction Unit (TCRU) is continuing the investigation.

“Being responsible for Toyota’s 30-millionth U.S.–assembled vehicle is a huge point of pride for all of us at Toyota Indiana,” said Leah Curry, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indiana president. “Together with our supplier partners, we build vehicles with our customers in mind. We’ve worked hard to give them an all-new Sienna that’s ready for any of life’s adventures.”
Toyota began U.S. production in 1986 and now has 10 plants in the U.S.

NEW HARMONY, Ind. (WEHT) — Just before 11 A.M. Sunday, Posey County Sheriff’s Office Deputies say they were notified that someone had located a vehicle in the water just off the River-Walk in New Harmony.
Officials say multiple agencies were called, including dive teams. A dead body was discovered inside the vehicle by the dive teams, police tell us.
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (FOX56/WKYT) – Thousands of families were without power Saturday night in Bowling Green, one day after the community was hit by a devastating tornado.
Huge trees were uprooted and homes were damaged by the storm. Harrison Alford said what started as a typical Friday night, gave way to a terrifying morning.
(WEHT) — Teladoc Health announced they’ll be providing free, 24/7 general medical services to residents, first responders and others directly impacted by this weekend’s outbreak of tornadoes in Kentucky.
A spokesperson with the company says individuals displaced by the storms can seek treatment from a licensed health care professional for any non-emergency illness online or by calling them directly. They add that mental health services are also available.
