Man dies after crash involving farm equipment near Buda – Shaw Local

An 82-year-old Buda man died Saturday after a crash involving a vehicle and a tractor towing a farm implement west of Buda, according to the Bureau County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash occurred on 1250 North Avenue, just west of West Street.
Sheriff James Reed said deputies responded to the crash about 3:16 p.m. May 10.
According to the sheriff’s office, the man was driving an SUV west on 1250 North Avenue when it approached an eastbound John Deere tractor driven by a 64-year-old Sheffield man.
While the SUV missed the tractor itself, it struck the farm implement being towed.
The driver of the SUV had to be extricated from the vehicle by the Buda and Sheffield fire departments.
He was taken by Stark County Ambulance to OSF Saint Clare Hospital, where he later was pronounced dead by the Bureau County Coroner.
Responding agencies included the Bureau County Sheriff’s Office, Buda Fire Department, Sheffield Fire Department, Sheffield Rescue, Stark County Ambulance and OSF Life Flight.
The crash remains under investigation by the Bureau County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau County Coroner’s Office.

Princeton Tree Board leads volunteer event planting 100 trees – Shaw Local

The Princeton Tree Board led a successful effort to plant 100 trees Saturday at Oakwood Cemetery.
Employee team members from Taylor’s Way and Hornbaker Gardens participated in the event coined “Plantathon 1.0″ by organizers. Volunteers watered trees and provided mulch for them.
“There was a big turnout there, including volunteers from the public,” said Princeton Mayor Ray Mabry.
City Employee Eric Ellberg participated with his wife and four sons, Mabry said.
“It’s a combined effort to get 100 trees planted at Oakwood Cemetery, which is a great service,” Mabry said. “We appreciate those trees.”
Mabry commended the tree board consisting of Dennis and Brian Taylor, David Hornbaker, Kelly Autrey-Webber, Lex Poppens and Andy Dye.
In a related matter, Mabry read a proclamation recognizing Arbor Day as Friday, April 25, in Princeton. The proclamation encouraged support of tree planting programs and urged citizens to plant their own trees to improve urban forestry.

Illinois State Police seek help in investigation of fatal Interstate 80 crash – Shaw Local

The Illinois State Police is requesting the public’s help investigating a Monday crash that resulted in the death of a Joliet woman.
State deputies responded to the crash at 6:45 p.m. Monday on Interstate 80 eastbound at mile marker 86 near Ottawa. All lanes of traffic were closed until 11:28 p.m.
The Kia Sedona minivan driven by a 30-year-old Joliet man struck the rear of the semi-trailer causing the minivan to leave the roadway and overturn, police said. Six minivan occupants were taken to the hospital with injuries; including a 30-year-old male occupant and five passengers, ages range from 1 to 14 years old.
“One adult died and at least one child sustained injuries as a result of the crash,” police said.
Anyone driving in the area at the time of the crash, anyone who witnessed the crash, or anyone who may have dash camera footage of the incident of the involved vehicles before the crash are asked to contact ISP Zone 1 special agents at 224-277-4945.

Antique mall opens in Princeton, grand opening set soon – Shaw Local

Nellie Roberts Curiosity Shop, 625 N. Main St., Princeton, recently opened a new antique mall, joining other area antique and collectable stores in the city.
The shop has more than 15 dealers of antiques and collectables from vintage Teddy Bears, books, china, toys, dolls, vintage clothing and small furniture, among other items.
A grand opening will be scheduled for Thursday, May 1, and will run through that weekend.

A tornado watch was issued for Bureau, Putnam, Marshall, Woodford and Whiteside counties until 11 p.m. Sunday.
Additionally, a tornado watch was issued for La Salle, Grundy, Lee, Livingston, Kankakee, Ford and Iroquois counties until 4 a.m. Monday.
A cold front will bring widespread showers and embedded thunderstorms late Sunday evening through Monday morning. While widespread severe weather is not expected, stronger storms will have the potential to generate locally gusty winds especially across western Illinois, according to the National Weather Service.

Joliet woman dies in Interstate 80 crash near Ottawa involving 6 others injured in minivan – Shaw Local

A 36-year-old woman died following a two-vehicle crash Monday night involving a semi-trailer and a minivan on Interstate 80, the Illinois State Police said in an email.
ISP responded to a crash at 6:45 p.m. on I-80 eastbound at mile marker 86 near Ottawa, police said. All lanes of traffic were closed until 11:28 p.m.
The Kia Sedona minivan driven by a 30-year-old Joliet man struck the rear of the semi-trailer causing the minivan to leave the roadway and overturn, police said.
“Six other minivan occupants were also transported with injuries,” police said. “Including a 30-year-old male occupant and five juvenile passengers, ages range from one to 14 years old.”
Police said no injuries for the semi-trailer driver were immediately reported.

Princeton's Burger King will permanently close Monday – Shaw Local

Burger King in Princeton will close its doors for good on Monday, June 29, at 5 p.m.
Joe Smith, general manager of the restaurant, confirmed Thursday morning the restaurant is set to close at that time. He was unable to release a statement on why or how the decision was made.
Smith said employees were notified of the plan to close on Monday. He said the news took him by surprise.
“We’re going to miss everybody who has kept us alive this long,” he said. “We had a lot of regulars we are definitely going to miss once we are closed.”
Burger King opened in Princeton in the early 90s. The restaurant currently employs 11 employees, nine full-time and two part-time.
The restaurant is located at 105 Ace Rd., Princeton.

Combat-Do Team competes in tournament – Shaw Local

On Sept. 18, the Combat-Do Team travelled to Oak Lawn to compete in the New Breed Jiu-Jitsu Tournament.
Five members of the team competed. The team fought tremendously winning nine medals — five first-place gold medals, three silver medals and a bronze medal.
Sophia Vest of Princeton, at 67 pounds, dominated both Gi and No-Gi divisions bringing home the bling. Ashley Richardson of Princeton, at 106 pounds, wrestled her way in an explosive fashion, clobbering her opponents and winning both the Gi and No-Gi divisions. Diego Schirmer of Princeton, fighting in the Intermediate division, easily swept through the competition in the No-Gi division claiming the title and the gold medal. In the Gi division, he fought his way to second place and a silver medal. Adyn Bublitz of Princeton had some tough matches but was able to claim two silver medals in both Gi and No-Gi divisions. George Keutzer of Princeton, in his very first competition, gallantly fought to a third-place finish in the No-Gi division taking home a bronze medal.

Chicago shooting: Isaiah Magruder identified as man shot to death in Princeton Park on Jan. 1, medical examiner says – ABC7 Chicago


The 29-year-old is believed to be Chicago’s first homicide case of 2025.
CHICAGO (WLS) — A man who was shot to death on January 1st has been identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner.

The deadly shooting happened on Wednesday at about 3:30 a.m. in the 9400 block of S. Harvard Avenue in the Princeton Park neighborhood.
A man, 29, was found with two gunshot wounds at the scene, where he later died.
The shooting is believed to be CPD's first homicide case of 2025.
He was identified as Isaiah Magruder of Chicago's South Shore neighborhood.
No one is in custody. Chicago police are investigating.
