Lydia Johnson, a senior at Princeton High School, has been named a Commended Student in the 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program, Principal Andy Berlinski announced.
Johnson is among approximately 34,000 students nationwide recognized for exceptional academic promise. Although Commended Students do not advance in the competition for National Merit Scholarships, they rank among the top 50,000 entrants who took the 2024 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
A letter of commendation from the school and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation will be presented to Johnson by Berlinski.
A spokesperson for the National Merit Scholarship Corporation said the recognition highlights students’ outstanding potential and the important role schools play in their development.

2 people hurt in Bureau County crash – KWQC

BUREAU COUNTY, Ill. (KWQC) – Two people were hurt in a multi-vehicle crash near Princeton Monday afternoon.
Troopers with the Illinois State Police went to milepost 49 on I-80 West for the crash around 2 p.m., according to a media release.
Two drivers were taken to a local hospital with injuries, troopers said.
Troopers said there were no reports of lanes being blocked.
Traffic was slowed for a period of time, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation’s website.
Princeton Fire officials told KWQC that crews were on scene around 2:35 p.m.

Princeton Rotary Club awards $10K to local nonprofits – Shaw Local

The Rotary Club of Princeton awarded $10,000 in grants to 10 local nonprofits through its “Love Our Community” program.
Three organizations received their checks Tuesday at the club’s noon meeting: Illinois Critical Access Hospital Network, Flags of Freedom, and Club 56.
Illinois Critical Access Hospital Network will use its $1,000 grant to pay for suicide intervention skills training.
Flags of Freedom will use the funds for flag maintenance and repair.
Club 56 is using its grant for summer camp programming.
The “Love Our Community” grant program awards funds to local nonprofits in appreciation for the resources and time they dedicate to serving the community. The program is funded by Rotary Club fundraisers and activities.
The Rotary Club of Princeton has served the community since 1920. The organization’s mission is to model service above self, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through its business, professional, and community leaders’ fellowship.
