Scruggs has recently completed Country Financial’s training that is focused on guiding customers toward successfully setting and achieving their goals.
Scruggs earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 2007 from Monmouth College. He has joins the Country Financial team of Jim Scruggs and Mike Morris at their office located at 204 N. Main St. in Princeton.
Scruggs currently resides in Princeton with his wife and two children. The office phone number is 815-872-3333.

Bureau County Christmas For Kids launches annual toy drive – Shaw Local

Bureau County Christmas For Kids is collecting toys and donations to support families in need this holiday season.
Since 2013, the Princeton Wesleyan Church has hosted and supported this all-volunteer nonprofit group.
The organization provides gifts to families with children in eighth grade and younger across multiple communities, including Princeton, Malden, La Moille, Ohio, Van Orin, Walnut, Manlius, Sheffield, Neponset, Buda, Tiskilwa and Wyanet.
Donations can be made by mailing checks to Princeton Wesleyan Church or by depositing funds directly at Heartland Bank in Princeton.
Volunteers will hold public toy drives from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 8 and Nov. 22 in Princeton. The first event will be in front of the Princeton Fire Department, and the second will take place outside the Apollo Theater.
Residents also can drop off new toys at designated collection boxes placed throughout western Bureau County. In Princeton, boxes are located at places including the Bureau County Metro Center, Central Bank, Dollar General, Douglas School, Evangelical Covenant Church, First Christian Church, First State Bank, First United Methodist Church, Heartland Bank (North and Main branches), Jefferson School, Jillian’s Hair Salon, Lincoln School, Logan Junior High, Midland Bank, MTM Recognition, New Hope Church, OSF St. Clare Hospital, Princeton High School, Princeton Public Library, Princeton Wesleyan Church, Rustique Hair Salon, St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church and TSC.
Additional collection points outside Princeton include Bureau Valley High School, Community State Bank in Neponset, First State Bank branches in La Moille and Van Orin, La Moille High School, the Malden Banking Center, the Manlius Banking Center, Mason Memorial Public Library in Buda, Ohio School, the Sheffield Banking Center, Socks Place in Wyanet, and Tiskilwa Public Library.
Bureau County Christmas For Kids encourages community members to contribute and help ensure children in the area have gifts this holiday season.

2024 Trunk or Treat event set for October 26 in Princeton – KTTN


A Trunk or Treat event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at Princeton Square. The event will run from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., and attendees are encouraged to note the recent time change. Organized by the local chamber and supported by area businesses, this community event invites children and their families to enjoy a festive afternoon of trick-or-treating in a safe environment.
The event will feature creatively decorated car trunks, and businesses will offer treats to children dressed in their Halloween costumes. Costume and decorated trunk prizes will be awarded, providing an extra incentive for participants to get creative. Families are encouraged to explore the trunks for treats while supporting participating local businesses.

Aldi opening new store in Princeton on Nov. 13 – WQAD


PRINCETON, Ill. — Aldi is expanding in Illinois with a new store opening in Princeton on Nov. 13.
The Princeton store is located at 146 Backbone Rd. E. Doors open at 8:30 a.m., and regular store hours will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.
The first 100 customers will receive a gift bag and gift card.
Aldi also opened a new store in Moline on Oct. 9 at the former Hy-Vee building near John Deere Road and 7th Street. The building had been vacant for nearly three years. 
Both stores are part of the company’s broader growth strategy. In 2024, Aldi announced plans to open 800 additional U.S. stores within five years and invest more than $9 billion nationwide. The company is headquartered in Batavia, Illinois.
