Police Chief Tom Kammerer presented the awards to open the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shawlocal.com\/tags\/princeton-city-council\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"\" title=\"https:\/\/www.shawlocal.com\/tags\/princeton-city-council\/\">Princeton City Council<\/a> meeting.<br \/>Kammerer said a woman with suicidal ideations who also had taken an unknown pill had been traveling to Princeton. Kowalski located the vehicle in the Walmart parking lot, Kammerer said. <br \/>\u201cOn approaching the vehicle, Officer Kowalski attempted to make contact with a female that was unresponsive, unconscious and had shallow breathing,\u201d Kammerer said.<br \/>Kowalski requested EMS. Realizing the vehicle was locked, Kowalski used her window-breaking tool on the passenger side window to gain entry and administer first aid. Once entrance was gained Kowalski and Jaramillo were able to remove the woman from the vehicle. <br \/>The officers began life-saving measures, including the usage of three doses of Narcan before EMS arrived.<br \/>\u201cBecause of the quick and decisive action of officer Kowalski and Jaramillo, the female survived and was transported to the hospital,\u201d Kammerer said. <br \/>The police officers received applause.<br \/>\u201cAs a council, we\u2019re so proud of you,\u201d Mayor Ray Mabry said.<br \/>Derek Barichello is the news editor for The Times in Ottawa and NewsTribune in La Salle, part of Shaw Local News Network, covering La Salle, Bureau and Putnam counties.
