CHICAGO — Chicago detectives seek the public’s help in identifying a vehicle of interest allegedly used in a fatal shooting earlier this month in Princeton Park.
Around 12:45 p.m., police say a man was standing on the sidewalk in the 9100 block of S. Wentworth Ave., on June 1, when a black-colored SUV drove by and an occupant inside opened fire.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the 25-year-old shooting victim was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified the man as Ogonnia Okeke.
Police on Wednesday released surveillance video of the vehicle.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A federal judge on Tuesday rejected former President Donald Trump’s request to block the release of documents to the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.
U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan declined to issue a preliminary injunction sought by Trump’s lawyers. Chutkan said President Joe Biden was “best positioned” to determine whether to waive executive privilege on documents sought by the House.

An hourslong chase with the 19-year-old driver of a stolen Dallas Fire-Rescue ambulance came to an end Monday afternoon when the ambulance appeared to get stuck and the driver tried to outrun police on foot.
The driver was identified Tuesday by police as 19-year-old Felix Lopez. He faces a second-degree felony charge of theft of property.
Dallas police said the ambulance was taken from Fire Station No. 53 Monday morning and was spotted early in the afternoon in southeast Dallas County.

The man behind the wheel of the ambulance refused to stop and led police on a chase for nearly two hours that went through Dallas County into Kaufman County before he drove north into Collin County and through the cities of Plano, McKinney and Princeton.
At times the driver intentionally drove into oncoming traffic, but no crashes have been reported in connection with the chase.
It was back in McKinney where the driver tried to again lose the police, sheriff’s deputies, and state troopers in a residential neighborhood, often going off-road and across lawns trying to escape.
The ambulance apparently bottomed out a curb and the driver quickly bailed out and tried to outrun police on foot while also trying to hold up his falling pants.
Moments later the man was cornered in a fenced-in area and was taken into custody by several officers near Joyce Way and Tension Lane.
Officers with the Dallas Police Department, Dallas County Sheriff’s Office and Texas State Troopers, and a number of other agencies, assisted in bringing the chase to a close.
An ambulance was taken from the same fire station in February 2020 and was driven to Louisiana.

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania voters overwhelmingly approved a marijuana legalization ballot referendum that calls on state lawmakers to enact the policy change.

Detroit, Michigan voters strongly approved a ballot measure to decriminalize psychedelics such as psilocybin, ayahuasca and ibogaine.

The House Veterans’ Affairs Committee scheduled a Thursday vote on a bill to require the Department of Veterans Affairs to conduct a series of clinical trials on the medical benefits of marijuana for military veterans with PTSD and chronic pain. The Biden administration testified against the legislation last month.

Sens. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and Brian Schatz (D-HI) filed an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act that’s aimed at streamlining marijuana research.

A new study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association Health Forum concluded that legalizing and decriminalizing marijuana are tied to “large reductions in race-based arrests” while states that kept prohibition saw “increases in arrest rate disparities.”

The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation announced that retailers have officially sold more than $1 billion worth of legal recreational marijuana products so far this year.

Customs and Border Protection added information about hemp and CBD products to its prior drug use guidelines for prospective employees.

Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ) tweeted, “Kratom is being researched and shows promise of being used to treat chronic pain with less addicting potential than opioid based drugs.”

The Washington, D.C. Council approved legislation to extend the validity of expired medical cannabis cards, create a new two-year card and double the amount a person can buy from four to eight ounces.

Missouri regulators have received several federal subpoenas for information about the state’s medical cannabis program.

Oklahoma regulators proposed rule changes to “help ensure the safety of medical marijuana.”

Oregon regulators filed proposed changes to hemp rules.

Delaware regulators proposed hemp rules.

Congress sent President Joe Biden a large-scale infrastructure bill that contains provisions aimed at letting scientists study the actual marijuana that consumers buy from dispensaries—instead of using only government cannabis.
A poll found that 62 percent of U.S. adults support the “national legalization of marijuana.” The survey, which shows that 54 percent of Republicans and 68 percent of Democrats are on board, is the second in recent days to show broad public support for ending cannabis prohibition.

A Texas judge granted a temporary injunction blocking the state’s ban on hemp-derived delta-8 THC products.

South Dakota activists did not collect enough signatures to qualify a marijuana legalization initiative for the 2022 ballot by the state’s initial deadline, but they believe a federal court ruling gives them more time to keep petitioning.

A new study found that simultaneous use of marijuana with substances like psilocybin, LSD or DMT is associated with a “more intense” psychedelic trip, including “mystical-type experience, ego-dissolution and visual alterations.”

Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-AK) spoke about how his marijuana research bill would provide “legal cover” for the Department of Veterans Affairs to conduct the studies.

Rep. Ed Perlmutter (D-CO) said he would consider adding cannabis banking language to other big pieces of legislation if it doesn’t get enacted through the National Defense Authorization Act.

Rep. Cliff Bentz (R-OR) sent a letter calling on Attorney General Merrick Garland to provide federal assistance to combat illegal marijuana cultivation.

Rep. Mike Garcia (R-CA) tweeted about a new documentary on illegal marijuana cultivation, saying, “I’ll continue to do everything in my power to combat these illegal grows threatening our community.”

Pennsylvania Democratic gubernatorial candidate Josh Shapiro, currently the attorney general, tweeted, “New Jersey and New York have both legalized marijuana. It’s time that we join our neighbors in the Northeast and legalize recreational marijuana. Legalize it. Regulate it. Tax it — and expunge the records of those who have served time for possessing small amounts of marijuana.”

Texas Democratic attorney general candidate Lee Merritt tweeted, “Our government decided to respond to drugs with incarceration and violence. It’s a strategy that has failed and I’ve seen it personally. It’s time to end the war on drugs and meet our communities with care and compassion.”

Mississippi’s House speaker said lawmakers are ready to move on a medical cannabis bill if Gov. Tate Reeves (R) would call a special session.

Kentucky’s Senate Judiciary Committee chairman said he could potentially support a medical cannabis bill in the upcoming session.

The Illinois Supreme Court Commission on Access to Justice posted forms to help people expunge marijuana convictions.

South Dakota regulators begin accepting applications for medical cannabis patient cards.

Alaska regulators are proposing changes to rules on marijuana enforcement action processes.

Oklahoma regulators sent an update on rules for non-infused medical cannabis pre-rolls.

Marijuana Moment obtained the draft text of a new Republican-led bill from Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) to federally legalize and tax cannabis that will soon be introduced as an alternative to Democratic leaders’ marijuana legislation.

The House Veterans’ Affairs Committee approved a bill to require the Department of Veterans Affairs to conduct clinical trials on the medical benefits of marijuana for military veterans with PTSD and chronic pain—despite opposition testimony from the Biden administration.

Sens. Brian Schatz (D-HI) and Bernie Sanders (I-VT), along with six other lawmakers, filed a National Defense Authorization Act amendment that would federally legalize medical marijuana for military veterans. It would also let Department of Veterans Affairs doctors issue cannabis recommendations and require the department to research marijuana’s therapeutic potential to reduce pain and opioid misuse.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta (D) spoke at an event commemorating the 25th anniversary of the state’s first-in-the-nation medical cannabis law, saying California has the “number one in the world” legal marijuana market.

A federal grand jury issued subpoenas seeking information about payments to public officials and consultants as part of a criminal investigation into marijuana licensing in Baldwin Park, California and other nearby cities.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Risk Management Agency tweeted, “Hemp offers new economic opportunities for America’s farmers, and we are pleased to offer coverage to hemp producers.”

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) tweeted “It’s long past time to end the federal prohibition on marijuana, enact criminal justice reforms, & invest in communities hurt by the War on Drugs. That’s why @SenBooker, @RonWyden, & I are working to pass our Cannabis Administration and Opportunity Act.”

Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA) said he supports the right of Washington, D.C. to legalize marijuana without congressional interference.

Indiana Democratic Senate candidate Thomas McDermott, currently Hammond’s mayor, discussed his support for marijuana legalization and acknowledged his cannabis use at recent concerts.

Mississippi’s lieutenant governor said he thinks lawmakers will pass a medical cannabis bill in next year’s regular legislative session.

Massachusetts’s Senate president said lawmakers will be considering marijuana-related issues such as local host community agreements, social equity and automatic expungements.

New York’s top marijuana regulator spoke about efforts to roll out legalization in a way that centers equity and justice.

California regulators ordered the destruction of a hemp field after the farmer allegedly applied pesticide that is not approved for use on the crop.

A Michigan appeals court upheld a two-year suspension for a doctor who approved nearly 22,000 medical cannabis recommendations within a one-year period.

Nevada regulators issued a health and safety bulletin about an inability to verify that ​​Kindibles, LLC created and tested certain marijuana edibles products. They also issued a summary suspension of the company’s license.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) tweeted, “The War on Drugs has been a war on people—NY is taking an important step to address its harms. I’m working with @SenBooker and @RonWyden to pass our Cannabis Administration and Opportunity Act to end marijuana prohibition & undo the harms of the War on Drugs at the federal level.”

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) pressed President Joe Biden’s nominee to serve as director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives about the possibility that Hunter Biden provided false information about illegal drug use on a federal form he had to fill out when purchasing a gun.

The House bill to protect gun rights of cannabis consumers got one new cosponsor for a total of three.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) appointed a new deputy director of government affairs for the Department of Cannabis Control.

New York’s lieutenant governor spoke at a cannabis conference and tweeted, “As a Senator, I was proud to support the MRTA because it promoted equity & opened up new avenues of business for NY. As Lieutenant Governor, I was honored to open up the expo this year & I look forward to working with @nys_cannabis to develop this important industry in our state.”

Florida Democratic gubernatorial candidate Nikki Fried, currently the agriculture commissioner, tweeted, “A commonsense new bill from @JeffreyBrandes would allow out of state visitors who have access to medical marijuana at home to continue to exercise that right here in FL. Good ideas don’t come with a partisan label – and I’m proud to support this one.”

Maryland Democratic gubernatorial candidate Rushern Baker, is calling for marijuana legalization.

An Oklahoma senator filed a bill to remove the agricultural sales tax exemption for medical cannabis growers.

Missouri regulators proposed loosening advertising restrictions on medical cannabis businesses.

CHICAGO (CBS) — At least 48 people were shot over the weekend across Chicago, 11 of them fatally.

Three of the homicides happened in a span of about two hours Friday evening.
Around 5:20 p.m. Friday, a 47-year-old man and a 34-year-old man were inside a home on the 11800 block of South State Street in West Pullman, when someone shot both of them, police said.
The 47-year-old man, identified as Shawn Young, was shot in the head and buttocks and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office. The 34-year-old man was shot in the left hand and right shoulder, and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in critical condition.
Around 6:20 p.m. Friday, a 39-year-old man was on the sidewalk on the 11000 block of South Vernon Avenue in the Roseland neighborhood, when someone in a light-colored vehicle pulled up and shot him in the chest, police said.
The victim was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Shortly after 7:30 p.m. Friday, a man was on the sidewalk on the 600 block of West 80^th Street in the Gresham neighborhood, when someone shot him in the head and neck.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 31-year-old man was killed in a shooting in the midday hours Saturday in the Jeffery Manor neighborhood. He was on the sidewalk on the 9700 block of South Merrion Avenue, when a vehicle pulled up and someone inside shot him in the right flank and right leg. The victim was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition and was later pronounced dead there.
A 29-year-old man was shot and killed Saturday afternoon in the Grand Crossing neighborhood. Police said the victim was inside a car on the 7300 block of South Dorchester Avenue shortly after 2 p.m., when someone shot him in the left side.
The victim was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition, and was later pronounced dead.
Two men also were killed in a double homicide Saturday afternoon in the West Englewood neighborhood.
Police said a 20-year-old man and a 33-year-old man were in a gas station parking lot near 61^st and Ashland around 3:10 p.m., when someone in a dark-colored vehicle pulled up and started shooting.
The 33-year-old man was shot in the chest, and was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The 20-year-old man was shot in the body and was pronounced dead at the scene. The younger man was identified as Jaylen Anderson.
There were also two attacks on Saturday in which three people were shot. One of the victims was killed in each.
One person was killed and two others were wounded in a shooting Saturday evening in the Heart of Chicago neighborhood.
Police said two men and a woman were on the sidewalk on the 1800 block of South Paulina Street shortly after 6 p.m. Saturday, when someone shot all three of them. A 26-year-old man was shot in the head and neck, and was pronounced dead at the scene. A 22-year-old man was shot in the right shoulder, and was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition. A 23-year-old woman was shot in the right shoulder, and was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition.
A man was killed and two others were also wounded Saturday night in a shooting near 27th Street and California Boulevard in the Little Village neighborhood, outside the Cook County Jail. The shooting happened just before 9 p.m. A 31-year-old man and a 60-year-old woman were walking when two people got out of a car and fired shots, striking them both, according to the Chicago Police Department.
The man suffered gunshot wounds to the face and chest and was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai. The woman was shot in the knee and is expected to recover. A third woman, 35, who was standing nearby suffered a graze wound to the face and is expect to be OK.
Two men were shot in the Heart of Chicago neighborhood at 3:03 a.m. Sunday, and one of them was killed. The men, 22 and 25, were walking in the 2100 block of South Oakley Avenue when they were shot by someone in a black sedan. The younger man was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital, while the older man was taken to the same hospital in critical condition.
A man of an unknown age was shot dead Sunday evening in South Shore. At 7:58 p.m., the man was near the street on the 2000 block of East 71st Street, when someone came up, took out a gun, and fired shots. The victim was struck to the head, neck, and abdomen and was pronounced dead at Jackson Park Hospital.
A man also suffered life-threatening injuries early Sunday morning in a shooting on the Stevenson Expressway west of Pulaski Road. Illinois State Police said a 30-year-old man was driving outbound on the expressway when he veered off the roadway to the left and crashed into the concrete median wall before coming to rest on the left shoulder.
The Chicago man suffered life-threatening injuries, while his three passengers – a 23-year-old Oak Lawn woman, a 22-year-old Chicago man, and a 22-year-old Hometown man – were not shot or injured.

A new Congressional Research Service report says the Biden administration can federally legalize marijuana without waiting for lawmakers to act. It also says the president can unilaterally grant mass amnesty to people who’ve violated federal cannabis laws.

Colorado voters rejected a ballot initiative that would have increased state marijuana taxes to fund an education program. A separate Denver measure to boost local cannabis taxes to fund pandemic research also failed.

Voters in seven more Ohio cities approved local marijuana decriminalization ballot measures, bringing the total number of jurisdictions to have enacted the reform in the state to 29 so far. Seven other cities rejected cannabis measures on Tuesday.

New York regulators approved rules for the cannabinoid hemp program—including allowing the sale of whole flower and infused foods and beverages, but banning delta-8 THC products.

The Montana Department of Revenue proposed strict new rules that would prohibit people with any kind of criminal conviction within the past three years from working in the marijuana industry—even if it’s for simple cannabis possession that’s now legal in the state.

Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KS) wrote about his opposition to marijuana legalization in a constituent letter.

/ STATES

Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak (D) appointed an assemblyman to the Cannabis Advisory Commission.

New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D) tweeted, “Since taking office, we’ve: …  ✅ Legalized cannabis… We’re not done delivering for New Mexicans and in 2022, we’re going to #KeepNMBlue.”

Texas Democratic attorney general candidate Lee Merritt spoke about how his father is serving a prison sentence for a drug offense.

The Florida House Professions and Public Health Subcommittee heard a presentation about medical cannabis.

Ohio regulators posted a second round of questions and answers about medical cannabis dispensary applications.

Oregon’s Department of Agriculture tweeted about a federal hemp survey.

Massachusetts regulators will host a workshop about marijuana social equity applications on Thursday.

The New Jersey attorney general’s office will host an event on marijuana-related employment issues on Monday.

The California  Department of Fish and Wildlife is hosting a technical assistance session for commercial cannabis cultivators on Tuesday.

Marijuana Moment obtained the draft text of a new Republican-led bill from Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) to federally legalize and tax cannabis that will soon be introduced as an alternative to Democratic leaders’ marijuana legislation.

The House Veterans’ Affairs Committee approved a bill to require the Department of Veterans Affairs to conduct clinical trials on the medical benefits of marijuana for military veterans with PTSD and chronic pain—despite opposition testimony from the Biden administration.

Sens. Brian Schatz (D-HI) and Bernie Sanders (I-VT), along with six other lawmakers, filed a National Defense Authorization Act amendment that would federally legalize medical marijuana for military veterans. It would also let Department of Veterans Affairs doctors issue cannabis recommendations and require the department to research marijuana’s therapeutic potential to reduce pain and opioid misuse.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta (D) spoke at an event commemorating the 25th anniversary of the state’s first-in-the-nation medical cannabis law, saying California has the “number one in the world” legal marijuana market.

/ FEDERAL

A federal grand jury issued subpoenas seeking information about payments to public officials and consultants as part of a criminal investigation into marijuana licensing in Baldwin Park, California and other nearby cities.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Risk Management Agency tweeted, “Hemp offers new economic opportunities for America’s farmers, and we are pleased to offer coverage to hemp producers.”

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) tweeted “It’s long past time to end the federal prohibition on marijuana, enact criminal justice reforms, & invest in communities hurt by the War on Drugs. That’s why @SenBooker, @RonWyden, & I are working to pass our Cannabis Administration and Opportunity Act.”

Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA) said he supports the right of Washington, D.C. to legalize marijuana without congressional interference.

Indiana Democratic Senate candidate Thomas McDermott, currently Hammond’s mayor, discussed his support for marijuana legalization and acknowledged his cannabis use at recent concerts.

/ STATES

Mississippi’s lieutenant governor said he thinks lawmakers will pass a medical cannabis bill in next year’s regular legislative session.

Massachusetts’s Senate president said lawmakers will be considering marijuana-related issues such as local host community agreements, social equity and automatic expungements.

New York’s top marijuana regulator spoke about efforts to roll out legalization in a way that centers equity and justice.

California regulators ordered the destruction of a hemp field after the farmer allegedly applied pesticide that is not approved for use on the crop.

A Michigan appeals court upheld a two-year suspension for a doctor who approved nearly 22,000 medical cannabis recommendations within a one-year period.

Nevada regulators issued a health and safety bulletin about an inability to verify that ​​Kindibles, LLC created and tested certain marijuana edibles products. They also issued a summary suspension of the company’s license.

Arizona regulators filed revised  marijuana rules.

The Virginia Cannabis Control Authority’s Board of Directors will meet on Tuesday.

Ohio regulators will consider medical cannabis rules changes on Tuesday.

The Washington State Social Equity in Cannabis Task Force’s Technical Assistance and Mentorship Workgroup will meet on Tuesday.

A new Gallup poll found that 68 percent of Americans support legalizing marijuana—including majorities of Republicans, Democrats and independents. Overall, U.S. adults back legalizing cannabis by a more than two-to-one margin.

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D) signed a bill removing the ban on medical cannabis business licensing for people with past marijuana convictions.

Arkansas activists filed a new marijuana legalization initiative they hope to put on the state’s 2022 ballot. It’s the third legal cannabis effort in the state to announce plans to qualify a measure to go before voters next year.

Recent comments from Drug Enforcement Administration officials signaling that hemp-derived delta-8 THC is not a federally illegal controlled substance are being seized on by industry advocates pushing back against state bans.

The Drug Enforcement Administration Museum reopened after renovations.

The Transportation Security Administration’s Southwest division tweeted a picture of seized cannabis, saying, “Many states allow marijuana use but Texas isn’t one of them. As a reminder, ignorance of the law excuses no man. @TSA officers found these illegal items @SATairport security checkpoint. Know what’s in your bag before you travel.”

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) tweeted, “The War on Drugs has been a war on people—NY is taking an important step to address its harms. I’m working with @SenBooker and @RonWyden to pass our Cannabis Administration and Opportunity Act to end marijuana prohibition & undo the harms of the War on Drugs at the federal level.”

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) pressed President Joe Biden’s nominee to serve as director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives about the possibility that Hunter Biden provided false information about illegal drug use on a federal form he had to fill out when purchasing a gun.

The House bill to protect gun rights of cannabis consumers got one new cosponsor for a total of three.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) appointed a new deputy director of government affairs for the Department of Cannabis Control.

New York’s lieutenant governor spoke at a cannabis conference and tweeted, “As a Senator, I was proud to support the MRTA because it promoted equity & opened up new avenues of business for NY. As Lieutenant Governor, I was honored to open up the expo this year & I look forward to working with @nys_cannabis to develop this important industry in our state.”

Florida Democratic gubernatorial candidate Nikki Fried, currently the agriculture commissioner, tweeted, “A commonsense new bill from @JeffreyBrandes would allow out of state visitors who have access to medical marijuana at home to continue to exercise that right here in FL. Good ideas don’t come with a partisan label – and I’m proud to support this one.”

Maryland Democratic gubernatorial candidate Rushern Baker, is calling for marijuana legalization.

An Oklahoma senator filed a bill to remove the agricultural sales tax exemption for medical cannabis growers.

Missouri regulators proposed loosening advertising restrictions on medical cannabis businesses.

Idaho regulators filed temporary and proposed hemp rules.

An Illinois judge approved a schedule for plaintiffs to join a lawsuit challenging regulators’ marijuana licensing processes.

Ohio regulators are now accepting applications for provisional medical cannabis dispensary licenses.

Washington State regulators sent an update about progress toward switching to a new marijuana tracking system.

New Mexico regulators are conducting a marijuana social equity survey.

Nevada regulators published a monitoring list for pest control products used in cannabis cultivation.

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania voters overwhelmingly approved a marijuana legalization ballot referendum that calls on state lawmakers to enact the policy change.

Detroit, Michigan voters strongly approved a ballot measure to decriminalize psychedelics such as psilocybin, ayahuasca and ibogaine.

The House Veterans’ Affairs Committee scheduled a Thursday vote on a bill to require the Department of Veterans Affairs to conduct a series of clinical trials on the medical benefits of marijuana for military veterans with PTSD and chronic pain. The Biden administration testified against the legislation last month.

Sens. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and Brian Schatz (D-HI) filed an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act that’s aimed at streamlining marijuana research.

A new study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association Health Forum concluded that legalizing and decriminalizing marijuana are tied to “large reductions in race-based arrests” while states that kept prohibition saw “increases in arrest rate disparities.”

The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation announced that retailers have officially sold more than $1 billion worth of legal recreational marijuana products so far this year.

Customs and Border Protection added information about hemp and CBD products to its prior drug use guidelines for prospective employees.

Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ) tweeted, “Kratom is being researched and shows promise of being used to treat chronic pain with less addicting potential than opioid based drugs.”

/ STATES

Ohio Democratic gubernatorial candidate John Cranley, currently Cincinnati’s mayor, tweeted, “If we taxed and regulated marijuana like alcohol we could reinvest millions back into our communities. We could create good-paying jobs and tackle our largest challenges. It’s time we #LegalizeIt.”

The Washington, D.C. Council approved legislation to extend the validity of expired medical cannabis cards, create a new two-year card and double the amount a person can buy from four to eight ounces.

Missouri regulators have received several federal subpoenas for information about the state’s medical cannabis program.

Oklahoma regulators proposed rule changes to “help ensure the safety of medical marijuana.”

Oregon regulators filed proposed changes to hemp rules.

Delaware regulators proposed hemp rules.

Vermont regulators issued recommendations on THC caps for marijuana products and oversight of the state’s medical cannabis program.

Connecticut’s marijuana Social Equity Council discussed local marijuana commerce bans at a meeting.

Minnesota regulators began accepting 2022 applications to grow or process hemp.

The New Hampshire Medical Oversight Board will consider medical cannabis issues on Wednesday.

The Arkansas Medical Marijuana Commission will meet on Thursday.

Kansas regulators will host a hemp outreach event on Thursday.

ROCHELLE — The Rochelle Junior Tackle program hosted Princeton on Saturday, with the Junior Hubs finishing 3-1 over four games. The eighth-graders fell 14-8 while the seventh-graders emerged victorious 30-6. The sixth-graders defeated Princeton 34-0 and the fifth-graders won 30-0. Rochelle will have a bye week before facing Stillman Valley at home on Saturday, Sept. 4.
8th Grade (1-1)
Roman Villalobos started the Junior Hub offense with a 15-yard run in the first quarter. Brode Metzger followed with 21-yard rush and a 12-yard rush of his own. Trailing 6-0, Rochelle took the lead in the second quarter, when Metzger intercepted a Princeton pass and returned the ball 70 yards for a touchdown. The Junior Hubs held an 8-6 lead over Princeton at halftime.
Gavin Neale paced the Rochelle offense with a 10-yard run and a 15-yard run in the fourth quarter. Princeton scored its second touchdown late in the fourth quarter to win the game. Neale finished with 59 rushing yards, while Villalobos added 38 yards on the ground. Metzger totaled a team-leading four tackles, while Van Gerber and Markell Pogue each added three tackles in the game.

7th Grade (2-0)
Dylan Manning exploded for two first-quarter touchdown runs, scoring on a 62-yard rush in the before adding a 55-yard touchdown run soon after. After Brody Bruns found Manning for a 17-yard pass play, Jonathan Andrist surged down the field for a 61-yard rushing touchdown. The Junior Hubs led 22-0 after the first quarter, which included a 52-yard run from Bruns.
Andrist scored his second touchdown of the game in the second quarter, breaking loose for a 40-yard rush to the end zone. Joshua Lassiter stepped up on defense for Rochelle, returning an interception 32 yards in the second quarter to put the Junior Hubs in scoring position again. Manning led Rochelle with 149 rushing yards, while Andrist finished with 101 yards on the ground. Warren Schweitzer recorded 7.5 tackles and Bruns ended the win with seven tackles.

6th Grade (2-0)
Bo Lundquist proved unstoppable for Rochelle, totaling four touchdowns including a 65-yard rushing score in the first quarter. On the next Junior Hub drive, Cohen Haedt connected with Holden Liebhaber on a 24-yard pass before Lundquist punched in a 9-yard rushing score.
Lundquist extended Rochelle’s 16-0 lead in the second quarter, finding the end zone on a 38-yard rushing touchdown before following with a 39-yard rushing touchdown on the next drive. Leading 28-0 at halftime, Rochelle sealed its victory with a 24-yard touchdown pass from Haedt to Liebhaber. Zachary Johnson chipped in an 11-yard rush in the fourth quarter.
Lundquist led the Junior Hubs with 154 rushing yards in the win. Dominick Joyce and Elijah Schweitzer each had 5.5 tackles, while Tyson Pavlak added two tackles in the victory.

5th Grade (2-0)
Braxton Bruns scored all four Rochelle touchdowns in the win. Bruns bounced outside for 65-yard rushing touchdown in the first quarter before adding a 53-yard rushing touchdown with the Junior Hubs leading 8-0. Bruns scored on a 51-yard rush in the second quarter and a 35-yard rush in the third quarter to seal the Rochelle win. Joey Chadwick chipped in a 25-yard run.
Bruns led Rochelle with 228 rushing yards in the victory, while Joey Chadwick finished with 31 yards rushing. Bruns recorded 8.5 tackles and Mikey Chadwick added three tackles in the win.

In observance of Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October, Freedom House is bringing attention to the issues of domestic violence with a Silent Witness display in Geneseo’s North City Park.
Red silhouettes of adult and child domestic violence are posted in North City Park, between East Pearl and East North Sts., and will remain on display for the month of October.
Diana Whitney, president of Freedom House board of directors, which is headquartered in Princeton is the domestic and sexual violence agency for Bureau, Henry, Marshall, Putnam and Stark counties in Illinois.
In commenting about the display in Geneseo, Whitney said, “The life-size silhouettes send a powerful message, each having the story about the victim. Two of the silhouettes are blank, to represent those killed in domestic violence situations, and are as yet, unknown.”
In addition to the display in Geneseo, Freedom House has enlisted police agencies, local businesses and concerned individuals to help the agency heighten awareness of domestic violence, Whitney said.
Princeton Main Street is showing their support by decorating store fronts with purple hearts, ribbons and anti-domestic violence phrases or themes.
The Italian, in Walnut, is hosting a Pizza Donation Night every Friday night in October when 25 percent of all pizza sales is donated to Freedom House.
For a second year, Tanners Orchard in Speer will stage the “Purple Pumpkin Project,” in which sales of painted purple pumpkins are donated to Freedom house. Members of the Princeton Junior Woman’s Club help Tanners paint the pumpkins purple.
Freedom House staff also conducted a “Dynamics of Domestic Violence” Lunch ‘n Learn training at the Nedda Simon Conference Center Princeton.
Freedom House also is staging a social media campaign with a month of #DVAM2021 posts featuring community members posing with a DV awareness support sign.
Headquartered in Princeton, Freedom House, a non-profit 501 c3 corporation, has satellite offices in Kewanee and Cambridge. Freedom House staff provides free, confidential, quality services to victims of abuse and their families, including a 24-hour crisis hotline (800-474-6031), emergency shelter, medical and legal advocacy, adults and child counseling, awareness and prevention education, and training for volunteers and professionals.
Whiney said in the last year Freedom House staff provided needed services to more than 900 victims (and families) of domestic violence and sexual assault.
