2 killed Monday in I-74 crash in Knox County – KWQC-TV6
KNOX Co., Ill. (KWQC) – Two people were killed in a crash Monday afternoon on Interstate 74 in Knox County.
According to the Illinois State Police, the crash happened at 3:30 p.m. on I-74 westbound about six miles south of Woodhull, Illinois.
The preliminary investigation indicated that a gold 2004 Jeep Liberty was driving east on the highway and, for unknown reasons, drove into the median at mile marker 38, lost control and rolled, according to state police.
The vehicle came to a rest in the westbound lanes. The driver, a 47-year-old woman from Lake Havasu City, Arizona, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A passenger in the vehicle, a 58-year-old man from Rolla, Missouri, was flown from the scene and died at a hospital, according to state police.
Their names have not yet been released.
A second passenger, a male also from Rolla, was transported to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
I-74 was closed for traffic while the crash was investigated, and the scene was cleaned up. All lanes opened back up around 7:15 p.m.
The crash is under investigation.
