The death toll from Friday night’s severe weather has reached at least 70 in Kentucky and six at the Amazon warehouse in Edwardsville, IL. Several workers became trapped inside when a tornado went through the area. The National Weather Service in St. Louis said preliminary indications are the tornado that hit the Edwardsville area was an EF3. Reports say at least 70 are dead in Kentucky from tornadoes, including at least 20 in Mayfield and several in Bowling Green, KY. The storms moved through Wayne and surrounding counties late Friday night, resulting in several thunderstorm warnings. At the studios of WFIW/WOKZ, a half inch of rain was measured.
The Illinois Critical Access Hospital Network recently recognized Wabash General Hospital in Mt. Carmel, IL for its ongoing commitment to quality of care, during a ceremony held in November in Champaign, IL. As part of the Federal Office of Rural Health Policy Medicare Beneficiary Quality Improvement Program, Wabash General Hospital and other critical access hospitals were asked to voluntarily participate in four defined domains of quality outcomes. Wabash General Hospital was recognized for being in the top ten percent of all critical access hospitals in the country for exceptional outpatient quality of care, and exceptional care transitions for all emergency department transfer patients. The ICAHN is located in Princeton, IL and is a network of 57 small rural Illinois hospitals dedicated to strengthening the operations of its member hospitals through collaboration.
The Village of Cisne will hold an event from 4 to 8 p.m. December 18th. Live reindeer will be at the Cisne Fire Department, and people can take photos with them, as well as Santa and Mrs. Claus, and professional photos and photo packages will be available. Other activities will include cookie decorating for kids, free cotton candy and carolers around the Cisne Square.
The Illinois State Fire Marshal’s Office is reminding the public about fire safety over the holidays. They say over a third of home decoration fires are started by candles, with the top three days for candle fires being Christmas Day, New Year’s Even and New Year’s Day. It is recommended that light strands be in good shape, with no worn or broken areas and to make sure there aren’t too many strands hooked together at once.
Area river stages as of this morning: Little Wabash River east of Fairfield is at 10.69 feet. Flood stage is 17 feet. At Clay City the stage is 5.98 feet. Flood stage is 18 feet. At Carmi the stage is 10.9 feet. Flood stage is 27 feet. The Skillet Fork at Wayne City is at 5.32 feet. Flood stage is 15 feet. The Wabash River at Mt. Carmel is at 10.01 feet. Flood stage is 19 feet. The next chance of rain in the area is Tuesday, with a better chance on Thursday.
